Cheslyn Hay Primary Academy is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to provide tailored support to Key Stage 2 pupils with autism and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The role involves working with multiple pupils, all of whom have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), and delivering support individually or in small groups as required by the EHCPs.
Responsibilities
- Provide targeted support for pupils with autism and SEMH needs in KS2 on a 1:1 or small-group basis.
- Assist with the implementation of Passports for Learning (IEPs) in line with pupils’ EHCPs.
- Promote positive regulation strategies and support emotional wellbeing.
- Use de-escalation approaches to help pupils manage heightened emotions and behaviours.
- Adapt classroom activities and resources to meet identified needs.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment.
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCo and external professionals.
- Support pupils’ social, emotional and academic development.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience working with children with autism and/or SEMH needs (desirable).
- Experience promoting positive regulation strategies and de-escalation (desirable).
- A patient, empathetic and flexible approach.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- A commitment to safeguarding and protecting children.
- Relevant qualifications (Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent) desirable but not essential.
