About the Role
Walsall Council is looking to appoint a dedicated and professional Security Officer to join our service, based at our Civic Premises. You will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of Council buildings, employees, visitors and assets. Acting as a visible and reassuring presence, you will help maintain a safe environment while providing a polite, professional and customer‑focused service. This is a frontline role that requires confidence, good judgement and the ability to respond calmly and effectively to a wide range of situations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a visible security presence within the Civic Premises
- Carry out regular patrols and inspections of the site
- Operate and monitor CCTV systems, ensuring accurate logs and records are maintained
- Control access to the building in line with policies and procedures
- Identify and manage unwanted behaviour, disputes or security risks
- Respond to alarms, incidents and requests for assistance
- Liaise with emergency services and other authorities where required
- Challenge and report suspicious activity
- Produce written incident reports when necessary
- Implement emergency procedures, including fire evacuation arrangements
- Act as a Fire Marshal and provide first aid support when required
- Use radio communication clearly and appropriately
About You
You will be calm, professional and customer-focused, with the ability to handle challenging situations confidently and appropriately. You will understand the importance of clear communication, confidentiality and equality in a public‑facing environment.
Essential Requirements
- A valid SIA licence
- A valid CCTV licence
- Experience of operating CCTV, access control and security alarm systems
- Knowledge of criminal and civil law relevant to security work
- Experience of front-of-house security in a public or large estate setting
- Good IT skills, including the ability to use online systems and Microsoft Office
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- First aid trained (or willing to undertake training)
- GCSE (or equivalent) Level 2 English
- Commitment to equality, diversity and confidentiality
