The predicted salary is between 13.47 - 13.47 £ per hour.

G3: £25,583 - £25,989 pro rata to hours worked. (£13.26 - £13.47 per hour)

4 roles: 2 x 12.5 hours per week, 1 x 9.375 hours per week, 1 x 13.75 hours per week. Some evening and weekend work may be required.

We are looking for Gallery Assistants to enhance visitor enjoyment of The New Art Gallery Walsall and to ensure the care, safety and security of the permanent collections and contemporary exhibitions. Reporting to the Front of House Managers, you will play a central role in providing a warm welcome to visitors, responding to queries, engaging visitors with the collections and contemporary exhibitions, invigilating the floors, assisting with learning and engagement events and visits, supporting previews and functions, and taking sales in the Gallery shop.

The New Art Gallery Walsall is one of the leading visual arts venues in the West Midlands. Situated in the heart of Walsall town centre, the Gallery is a busy and vibrant building with an exciting programme of contemporary art exhibitions and collections displays, lively learning, education and community events, an artist studio, art library, café, conference facilities and shop. The Gallery provides a truly unique place for its visitors to experience, learn from, and participate in the visual arts.

As part of Walsall Council and funded as a National Portfolio Organisation by Arts Council England, the Gallery is committed to delivering ambitious artistic programmes and meaningful engagement with diverse audiences.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with a keen interest in providing excellent customer service and a good attention to detail, to join us for the next exciting stage in the Gallery’s future. You will bring:

  • Good verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information confidently to the public.
  • The ability to provide advice and/or information in accurate spoken English.
  • An understanding of the needs of different audiences.
  • An interest in and some knowledge of museums and galleries.
  • An ability to work as part of a team.
  • Experience of security duties and/or evidence of a trustworthy and conscientious attitude towards security.
  • An ability to handle cash responsibly and in a trustworthy manner.
  • Some computer awareness and/or ability to learn about and operate computerised and documentation systems.
  • An awareness of, and commitment to, equality of opportunity.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Recent experience of working directly with the public in a reception, information or sales providing role.
  • Basic numeracy and literacy.
