Walsall Council's Family Help Service provides help at the earliest opportunity through a whole family approach based on collaboration with families and partners from schools, health, children’s services, and the community. We have vacancies for 2 Family Help Support Workers to enhance our sense of purpose and growing expertise. One will be based within the East Locality and the second will be based with the 0 - 5 Young and Thriving Team.
These are exciting opportunities for dynamic and experienced “family-centred” practitioners who hold relevant academic or professional qualifications at level 3 or higher to play a significant role within the delivery of our Family Help Service. We are looking for enthusiastic candidates who have significant experience and working knowledge of an early intervention setting and statutory work with children and families.
We seek reflective practitioners with a track record of working holistically with children, young people, and families within a whole family model. Highly skilled practitioners will demonstrate extensive capability in engagement, undertaking comprehensive whole family assessments that create clear goals, and support the use of evidence-informed practice. We especially invite applications from workers with experience of working with children with additional needs and their families.
Applicants should demonstrate their skill set to act as a “lead professional” and the importance of working purposefully and collaboratively with all family members and other agencies to achieve the best outcomes for children. An awareness of SEND, education issues, and understanding of how to work with schools and families to drive engagement of children and families in educational attendance and ambition is essential.
Walsall Council’s Children’s Services are the only Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ local authority in the Black Country. During a visit in May 2025, Inspectors described Walsall Council as a place where children were at the heart of. The council’s journey of continuous improvement started in 2017 and has since transformed into a service with a clear vision, priorities, and plan, all informed by the views of our staff and children.

Completion of an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check is a requirement for working with children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
