We’re looking for motivated, people-focused and adaptable Employment Advisors to join Walsall Council’s Employment and Skills Team, part of Children’s Services. You’ll play a key role in helping residents across the borough to access sustainable employment and gain the skills and qualifications they need to thrive. Working across a range of programmes, including face‑to‑face delivery in community venues, you may support young people, adults with additional needs or disabilities or residents facing multiple and complex barriers. Some programmes, such as Connect to Work, follow IPS style fidelity principles, offering structured, person‑centred support to help people move closer to meaningful work. This is a great opportunity for someone with experience in employability, who enjoys working with a diverse caseload and is passionate about making a tangible difference to people’s lives.

As an Employment Advisor, you’ll take ownership of a varied caseload of residents, providing personalised, strengths‑based support to help them progress into work, education or training. You’ll work with people at different stages of their journey, some unemployed, others looking to upskill or change careers and offer guidance tailored to their needs, abilities and ambitions. Your role will include delivering one‑to‑one support, creating action plans, building employability skills and linking clients to the right opportunities. You’ll work across the borough, developing strong partnerships with employers, training providers and community organisations to create clear pathways into sustainable, good quality employment. This is a performance‑driven role with clear targets for employment and skills outcomes, offering you the chance to make a real, measurable impact in Walsall’s communities.

Experience supporting people into work, training or personal progression, ideally in a local authority, education, community or employability environment.

  • A strong understanding of the challenges individuals may face, and practical strategies to help overcome barriers.
  • Excellent communication, coaching and caseload management skills.
  • A Level 4 qualification (or equivalent experience) in CIAG, employability, coaching or a related field.
  • A proactive, flexible approach and a commitment to person centred, inclusive support.
  • Confidence working independently across the borough, building relationships and motivating clients to achieve long‑term change.

Closing Date: 24th April 2026
