Hours of work: 18 hours per week (Term-time only)

Salary: £14.82 per hour

Responsible to: The Scheme Co‑Managers

Principle purposes of the job

  • To plan and facilitate (in conjunction with other staff and volunteers) our group offer:
    • Bump to Baby: A supportive perinatal space where expectant and new parents can connect, share experiences, and feel less alone.
    • Me‑Time: Time for mums to focus on their wellbeing whilst children enjoy the free creche.
    • Chatterbox: A friendly, inclusive group for parents and children to play together and practice language skills.
    • Young Parent Me Time: For parents aged 24 years old and under to meet new people, reduce isolation, and improve wellbeing.
    • Big Hopes, Big Future: Early Explorers: A school readiness‑based group which helps support the development of children’s communication, social skills, independence and much more through playful interactions.
  • To build and maintain strong links with referrers to promote the groups and maximise referrals to the projects.
  • Implement excellent safeguarding practice in all areas of work and maintain high standards of practice supporting families.
  • To complete regular risk assessments for all groups.

Responsibilities

  • To administrate the preparation of groups, including rooms and arranging activities.
  • To welcome all parents/carers to the groups, recognising the importance of their role as the prime educators and care givers of their children.
  • To encourage the active participation of parents/carers in their child’s play whilst being aware of group dynamics, ensuring all groups provide a non‑judgemental environment for families.
  • Planning, running and evaluating group sessions and developing our group support programme alongside colleagues.
  • Supporting peer support networks through the group.
  • Introducing families to appropriate support outside of the group settings when necessary.
  • To maintain accurate attendance records and update our Charitylog cloud‑based database with a good level of computer literacy.
  • Fulfil the charities and funder’s monitoring requirements, including actively seeking feedback from parents/carers.
  • Carrying out risk assessments as required, particularly where activities outside of the group environment are arranged.
  • To be vigilant about the upkeep of equipment ensuring good standards of safety and hygiene are followed.
  • To safeguard and promote children’s welfare.
  • To respond, record and report appropriately any safeguarding concerns.
  • To ensure equality of opportunity, fairness, and diversity in all aspects of the charity’s work.
  • To take responsibility for the strict monitoring of all health and safety procedures within the group setting, and to work within the policies of health and safety set down by the charity.
  • To ensure all families comply with group rules.

Managing Volunteers

  • Provide support and supervision for staff and volunteers assisting at groups.

Supporting the work of the charity

  • Supporting the implementation and review of relevant Home‑Start policies and procedures.
  • Complying with our administration, monitoring and financial systems.
  • Promoting the work of the charity when necessary.
  • Attending staff training, support and supervision meetings, the AGM and any other meetings on the organisation’s behalf, as required.
  • Contributing to and supporting the development of the Home‑Start network locally, regionally and nationally.

Working in Partnership

  • Ensuring appropriate liaison with referrers and other professionals.
  • Networking appropriately within the community.

The post holder may be required to undertake any other duties that fall within the nature of the role and responsibilities of the post as detailed above.
