Telford College offers a role responsible for overseeing and coordinating the Estates Assistants and Cleaning Team to deliver a high-quality support service for the College’s staff and student community. The role will lead and support the efficient day-to-day operation, maintenance, and upkeep of the College estate, ensuring facilities are safe, well-maintained, and fit for purpose. It also includes supporting the delivery of services across the College’s various provisions, including the proposed new campus at Station Quarter from September 2026, contributing to a positive and effective learning and working environment for all users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor, co-ordinate and allocate all tickets raised through the College reactive help desk, including prioritisation by urgency, location and task requested.
  • Respond to customer requests via the IT/Estates service desk, or as notified by the Director of Estates or Estates Administrator, in a professional, positive and timely manner so that originators are always up-to-date on progress.
  • Work with the Director of Estates to create an SLA for estates‑related tasks submitted through the help desk and implement.
  • Monitor, co‑ordinate and supervise completion of mandatory planned maintenance tasks, ensuring records and audit trails are comprehensive, including operating fire and intruder alarm systems, carrying out weekly fire alarm checks, and periodic checks of other statutory items – such as emergency lighting systems.
  • Support the Building Services Officer with checking and monitoring of the daily operation of building plant equipment – heating, water services, air conditioning and AHU systems, etc., and report any issues so they can progress remedy accordingly.
  • Carry out and record inspections of the premises, reporting any required repairs or maintenance work or health and safety concerns identified.
  • Carry out general maintenance duties, including minor plumbing, carpentry and building repairs, decorating and, when required, contractor supervision.
  • Undertake, when required, low‑level grounds maintenance, such as grass cutting, trimming, weeding, hedge/tree trimming and pruning.
  • Meet with contractors and instruct on works required, ensuring College procedures are adhered to.
  • Draft and place orders for consumables/materials and other minor maintenance items through the Estates Administrator.
  • Lead on coordinating support for any college events, or events by externals on College premises, working in conjunction with the event organisers and the College marketing team as required.
  • Where needed, drive the College minibus and van for collection and delivery of materials, and transportation of students or prospective students.

Skills & Expertise

  • Have a good general knowledge of building construction and maintenance, and have experience and qualifications in a recognised trade.
  • Experience of using MS Office applications such as Word and Excel, and general computer skills.
  • Knowledge and/or competencies of health and safety as relevant to the post and a commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of learners and others.
  • Experience of supervising others, in a manner conducive to efficient and effective working.
  • Able to work effectively on their own initiative as well as being part of a team, having a common‑sense approach to tasks.

Qualifications & Training

  • First aid qualification or willingness to work towards.
  • Possess a full driving licence and have immediate access to a car in case of emergency callout.
  • Basic Health and Safety at work (Desirable).
