Voluntary Role
Being a school governor is a challenging but hugely rewarding role. It will give you the chance to make a real difference to the young people at Old Park Primary School and Nursery, and give something back to our local community.
The Governing Body
- To set the strategic direction of the school
- To hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of pupils
- To oversee the financial effectiveness of the school, making sure the money is well spent.
Anyone aged over 18 can be a governor and you do not need to be a parent. There is no requirement for you to have an understanding of the education system, just the necessary skills, character and time to contribute.
Qualifications and Training
Essential training is provided. This will help you understand the importance your role will play in the continued success of Old Park Primary School and Nursery. If you have experience in Finance or Premises we would love to hear from you!
As a Governor you will be able to:
- Develop and utilise your skills
- Make a valuable contribution to education and our community
- Support and challenge Old Park to improve our success for pupils and staff
- Bring your unique experiences, perspectives and insights into decision-making in the interests of the school community
We are fully committed to the safeguarding and wellbeing of all staff and pupils. All Governors must undergo safeguarding screening via Disclosure and Barring Service, and an online check will be conducted on all candidates that are shortlisted.
