Cheslyn Hay Primary Academy are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team, providing tailored support to pupils in Key Stage 2 (KS2) with autism and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The role involves working with more than one pupil, all of whom have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Support will be delivered on an individual or small group basis, dependent upon need and in accordance with the EHCPs.
Responsibilities
- Providing targeted support for pupils with autism and SEMH needs in KS2, delivered on a 1:1 or small group basis as appropriate.
- Assist with the implementation of Passports for Learning (IEPs) in line with pupils’ EHCPs.
- Promote positive regulation strategies and support emotional wellbeing.
- Use de-escalation approaches to support pupils in managing heightened emotions and behaviours.
- Adapt classroom activities and resources to meet identified needs.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCo, and external professionals.
- Support pupils’ social, emotional, and academic development.

Qualifications
- Experience working with children with autism and/or SEMH needs (desirable).
- Experience promoting positive regulation strategies and supporting de-escalation (desirable).
- A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent) are desirable but not essential.
