Job Purpose

The role of the Nursery Deputy Manager and SENCO is to lead and take responsibility of the day to day running of the setting in the absence of the manager, and SEND support in line with the EYFS and SEND code of practice, whilst delivering the highest standards of childcare.

  • Childcare
  • Work in collaboration with the nursery manager
  • Promote our values and ethos to ensure a child‑centred, safe and stimulating environment is provided whilst meeting the individual needs of every child.
  • In the absence of the manager be responsible and accountable for the day to day operational and organisational aspects of the nursery in line with policies and procedures, safeguarding, Ofsted requirements, local authority guidance, SEND code of practice, health and safety and equal opportunities.
  • Ensure that all aspects of the Statutory Framework for Early Years Foundation Stage and Welfare requirements are delivered to the highest standard.
  • Work in partnership with local childcare / education providers, health providers and all other agencies.
  • Develop and maintain procedures for review and assessment of each child’s progress.
  • Support and manage alongside the manager an effective parent liaison programme.
  • Take accountability of role modelling and empowering the staff team to deliver high standards of childcare
  • SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator)
  • Lead and coordinate the provision for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across the nursery.
  • Ensure the nursery meets the requirements of the SEND Code of Practice and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
  • Identify, monitor and support children with additional needs, ensuring appropriate interventions are planned and reviewed.
  • Work closely with parents and carers to build positive partnerships and support each child's individual needs.
  • Liaise effectively with external agencies and professionals, including Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists, Health Visitors and the Local Authority SEND team.
  • Develop, implement and review Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and targeted learning plans where appropriate.
  • Support practitioners to deliver inclusive, high-quality teaching and learning experiences for all children.
  • Provide guidance, coaching and training to colleagues to promote inclusive practice and increase confidence in supporting children with SEND.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records and ensure documentation is completed in line with statutory requirements.
  • Monitor children's progress and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, adapting support where necessary.
  • Contribute to safeguarding and promote the welfare, wellbeing and inclusion of every child.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive environment where every child is valued, respected and supported to achieve their full potential.
  • Keep up to date with current legislation, guidance and best practice relating to SEND and inclusive education.
  • Work collaboratively with the Nursery Manager and wider staff team to continuously improve SEND provision across the setting.

HR – Support the Manager to

  • Lead the nursery team while promoting positivity and professionalism.
  • Lead with a genuine desire to train and develop staff, supervising and supporting their professional development and day to day practice.
  • Management of staffing levels and turnover, through recruitment to ensure staffing ratios are at the required levels and managing sickness and absence.
  • Ensuring continuous professional development of staff through regular, documented one to one meetings and appraisals.
  • Recruit high quality, appropriately qualified staff in line with safer recruitment procedures

Finance – Support the Manager to

  • Manage the success of the nursery by achieving and maintaining occupancy levels.
  • Future planning the year ahead while monitoring trends and needs of the community.
  • Effective management of the nursery budget.
  • Ensuring company charging policies and procedures are followed.
  • To complete termly invoices and submit staff payroll information.
  • Complete funding submissions in line with local authority procedures.

Marketing – Support the Manager to

  • Develop and implement a proactive marketing plan, represent and promote the nursery at relevant social and marketing events.
  • Ensure positive promotion of the brand positively in the community.
  • To be responsible for implementing the Holy Cross Preschool Nursery and Kids’ Club rules in order to maintain high standards and reputation.
  • To ensure the image of the company is portrayed in a positive light at all times.
  • To advertise the nursery through events including open days and celebrations.
  • Monitor and respond to parents in order to promote customer satisfaction.
  • Facilities
  • Manage stock/ equipment control and procurement.
  • Ensure health and safety at all times.
  • Provide and maintain high-quality equipment.
  • Support the manager to manage budgets in order to maintain and develop facilities.
  • Identify and purchase adequate resources in line with the needs of the nursery and company audits
  • Manage the cleanliness and hygiene of the setting in order to maintain the nursery appearance.
  • Work alongside the school kitchen to ensure good communication in regards to dietary and allergy requirements.
