What to Expect in the Role:
We are looking for an experienced Environmental Health Officer to join our highly motivated Environmental Health Team. The team is split into an Environmental Protection and a Food and Safety team. The successful candidate will have the capacity to carry out the full range of environmental health duties and functions to a high standard, utilising their specialist knowledge in food and safety or Environmental Protection. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and highly motivated with the drive to get the best out of themselves and others. They will be an excellent communicator and be able to deal effectively with difficult and complex situations to achieve positive outcomes. They will be a team player and have the ability to forge good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
- Responding to complaints/enquiries relating to general environmental health, food safety, accidents, infectious disease, noise, air, land, and water pollution, drainage, and public health burials.
- Serve as the Lead Officer for one or more of the following: Accident Investigations; Infectious Diseases; Food Safety; Private Water Supplies; Local Authority Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control; Local Air Quality Management; Contaminated Land; Noise; Lighting; Pollution Prevention and Control.
- Support the completion of any environmental health monitoring and inspection programmes and follow up action as necessary.
- Undertake routine investigation work and follow up on actions as appropriate, including collection of evidence, letter writing, service of notices, and giving evidence in Court in accordance with local agreed policies and procedures.
What You’ll Need:
- Sound environmental health technical knowledge (on food safety, health and safety, or environmental protection, licensing and planning).
- Experience of investigating complaints, collecting evidence and carrying out enforcement.
- Excellent negotiation and influencing skills, and a passion for problem solving.
- Capability of delivering high-quality work under pressure with minimal supervision.
This post is offered as a secondment opportunity for internal staff, allowing employees to return to their original post at the end of the secondment period.
