About The Role
We are seeking a reliable, proactive and committed Janitor to join our school team. You will play a vital role in ensuring that the school premises are safe, clean and well‑maintained, providing a welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Security & Site Safety
- Unlock and secure the school premises at designated times
- Monitor and maintain heating, lighting and alarm systems
- Ensure the site is safe, tidy and ready for daily use
- Conduct routine health and safety checks, including outdoor areas
- Ensure clear and safe pedestrian access to the school, particularly in adverse weather conditions such as snow clearing and gritting
- Maintenance & Cleaning
- Carry out cleaning of areas such as grounds, drains, boiler rooms and storage spaces
- Remove waste and dispose of it appropriately
- Ensure that the school and ground are litter free
- Replenish consumables (e.g. soap, toilet rolls, towels)
- Deal with spillages, blockages and minor maintenance issues
- Site Support
- Assist contractors and visitors onsite
- Report faults in gas, water and electrical systems
- Carry out general portage and moving of equipment
- Maintain basic records and respond to emergencies
- Supporting the School Community
- Promote safeguarding and welfare of children at all times
- Follow school policies on health & safety, confidentiality and equality
- Work collaboratively with staff and contribute to the school ethos
About You
- Has experience in a similar role or practical maintenance/cleaning work
- Has good numeracy and literacy skills
- Can use relevant tools and equipment safely
- Works well both independently and as part of a team
- Has a friendly, professional and “can‑do” attitude
- Is reliable, adaptable and committed to high standards
