Staffordshire County Council is seeking a Senior Lawyer to lead and support a legal team, ensuring high‑quality client service, drafting and negotiating complex legal documents, and representing clients at high‑level court and tribunal proceedings.

Main Responsibilities

  • Complete aspects of highly complex legal casework, including drafting and negotiating complex legal documents.
  • Represent the relevant client at all high‑level case‑related meetings, conducting complex advocacy on evidence and cross‑examining witnesses and experts at court hearings.
  • Manage junior team members and ensure appropriate professional development of team members.
  • Work with senior colleagues to achieve the financial objectives of the LSU and present creative solutions to remain within budgetary restrictions.
  • Take fee‑earner responsibility on a small number of highly complex cases to achieve optimum outcomes for the client.

Ideal Candidate

  • A Solicitor, Fellow of CILEX with litigation rights, or a Barrister with a practising certificate authorised to conduct litigation, possessing substantial experience in the relevant legal area.
  • Extensive experience in the relevant field within a legal environment, with in‑depth knowledge of applicable laws and demonstrable experience completing all aspects of complex legal casework.
  • Experience representing clients at high‑level case‑related meetings and conducting complex advocacy on evidence in relevant tribunals.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and engagingly in all media forms – verbally, digitally and in writing.
  • Ability to draft complex legal documents.
