Staffordshire County Council is seeking an individual to join the Children’s Social Care Commissioning team.

This new role will work closely with social care colleagues to commission support services for families and monitor residential schools against National Minimum Standards.

Work location: Hybrid with one in‑person day per week at Staffordshire Place One. Flexible hours are supported.

Responsibilities

  • QA residential schools against National Minimum Standards for Residential Education Settings via regular visits to ensure care plans and contracts are met.
  • Support the Commissioning Manager to ensure places commissioned meet high care standards and comply with council procedures and contracts.
  • QA the commissioned centre‑based community support for children not covered by CQC or OFSTED, providing additional protection and oversight.
  • Attend admissions and review panels at residential schools when students are being considered for support.
  • Review individual placement plans, progress and outcomes to ensure placements support children and young people in developing life skills, independence and preparing for adulthood, accessing local community activities and preventing escalation.
  • Attend the Children’s Disability Resource Panel every fortnight, collaborating with social care colleagues and raising safeguarding concerns when necessary.
  • Contribute to the development of children’s services to ensure families receive appropriate support.
  • Ideal Candidate
  • Degree level education in a related field or equivalent experience in social care/health sector and/or commissioning.
  • Experience working directly with children.
  • Experience in a children’s social care setting or similar environment.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of quality assurance systems.
  • Effective continuous improvement in service delivery.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and current challenges in this service area.
  • Effective communication skills with a range of audiences, including children and young people.
