Birmingham Children’s Trust – Specialist Assessment Social Worker

Role overview: Join our brand-new Specialist Assessment Service to carry out complex assessments and directly improve outcomes for Birmingham’s most vulnerable children.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out high-quality, evidence-based assessments of children and families.
  • Provide clear, analytical reports to support decision-making in children’s best interests.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals, including schools, health colleagues, police, and voluntary organisations.
  • Develop meaningful relationships with children and young people, ensuring their voices are central to your work.
  • Contribute to our trauma-informed, relationship-based practice model, ensuring positive and lasting outcomes.
  • Specialist practice – work on a wide range of community-based and complex assessments, including Parent Assess, CUBAS, and specialist risk assessments.

Qualifications

  • Be a qualified Social Worker.
  • Hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England.
  • Demonstrate resilience, strong time management, and excellent analytical skills.
  • Have experience in assessment and care planning, with a passion for improving outcomes for children.
  • Be able to work collaboratively, building strong relationships with colleagues and partner agencies.
  • Bring curiosity, professionalism, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
