As an apprentice, you will earn while you learn, gaining valuable hands‑on experience in statutory social work while completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work funded through the apprenticeship programme, subject to eligibility, with University College Birmingham.

You will be supported throughout the programme with:

  • Dedicated guidance from an experienced Practice Educator within one of our Family Help teams.
  • Academic support from the University.
  • Access to reflective supervision and support with your teams and via our consultant social workers.

About You

We are looking for individuals who hold a minimum 2:2 degree, have experience working with children and families, and demonstrate a strong commitment to learning and professional development through the social work apprenticeship. You should have a genuine passion for supporting children and families in Walsall, along with the ability to reflect on practice, learn from feedback, and work collaboratively to make a positive difference to outcomes for children.

Interview Process

Stage 1: Interviews will be held with Walsall Council to include young people and social work practitioners.

Stage 2: Successful applicants will be invited to a university interview.

This is an 18‑month Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) programme, offering an intensive and rewarding route into social work. You will build your skills through high‑quality, hands‑on practice experience while completing your academic qualification with University College Birmingham.
