King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys – Site Team Porter (36.5 hrs per week). Salary: SCP 13-15, £29,064 – £30,024. Working pattern: 5 days in 7, 36.5 hours, 4-week rotating shift. Shift options include:
- 07:00‑15:00 Monday‑Thursday, 07:00‑14:00 Friday;
- 08:00‑16:00 Monday‑Thursday, 08:00‑15:00 Friday;
- 14:00‑22:00 Monday‑Thursday, 14:00‑21:00 Friday;
- 11:00‑18:30 Wednesday‑Thursday, 11:00‑18:00 Friday;
- 08:00‑16:00 Saturday‑Sunday.
The post is full-time with working during school holidays and may require additional hours for school events.
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Estates and Facilities Manager and the Facilities Coordinator, the postholder will provide a proactive and efficient porter service across King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys and King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include supporting the security and upkeep of the site, setting up rooms for meetings and events, handling deliveries, performing minor maintenance, maintaining the external environment, and daily swimming pool checks.
- Carry out security procedures, acting as key holder to open and secure premises as required.
- Provide weekend cover for events, sports fixtures, lettings, and emergency services.
- Report acts of theft, vandalism, and concerns to the Estates Manager or Senior Site Supervisor.
- Maintain school grounds and external areas – litter picking, ensuring safety, and reporting remedial works.
- Check and operate alarms and fire equipment; undertake weekly Fire Alarm tests.
- Daily maintenance of the onsite swimming pool: water testing, cleaning, pH balance, liaising with external contractors.
- Assist with furniture and equipment moves, room set-ups, and escorting contractors.
- Receive and escort deliveries; unload and store cleaning materials.
- Perform minor maintenance: painting, changing light tubes, refixing door handles, erecting signage, clearing gutters, basic gardening.
- Follow COSHH and risk assessment guidelines; manage plant and equipment.
- Provide signpost service for staff queries.
- Complete all required training and CPD courses.
Essential Skills
Proactive and thorough with an understanding of site security. Initiative to prioritise and complete works. Accurate record-keeping of work carried out. Flexibility to meet post requirements. Teamworking ability. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to communicate with people at all levels.
Preferred Skills
Current driving licence. Basic practical skills in carpentry and plumbing for minor maintenance. Previous experience in a similar role or in a school environment.
