Sandwell Children’s Trust (SCT) provides specialist community‑based services to children and young people. We operate as a “Good” provider under Ofsted and offer a supportive, collaborative culture.

Salary: £42,839 – £48,226 per annum, dependent on experience.

Working hours and contract: 37 hours per week, fixed‑term contract until March 2027.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist the Team Manager/Deputy Service Manager in delivering an effective service that meets the individual needs of young people and their families, helping to reduce and prevent further offending.
  • Take senior first line management responsibility for designated areas of the multi‑agency Youth Justice Service and other preventative strands.
  • Adhere to the YJB Performance Management Framework, standards for working with children and key performance indicators, and apply evidence‑based practice.
  • Manage a reduced caseload of children and young people with complex needs.
  • Support staff to manage their caseload; ensure planning meetings and reviews are completed on time and KPIs are met.
  • Ensure safeguarding of children, young people and the community by managing risk, safety and wellbeing plans and chairing associated meetings.
  • Collaborate with specialist services and partners to deliver intervention plans.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date information systems.
  • Deliver direct work/creative interventions to young people on a 1:1 basis or in small groups.
  • Attend court and represent the Youth Justice Service when required (training provided).
  • Maintain health and safety for staff.
  • Promote best‑value principles of continuous improvement and excellence in service provision.

Qualifications and experience

  • National qualification (degree level) in a youth‑related subject, Social Work, Probation, or Youth Justice.
  • At least 24 months experience working in a multi‑agency Youth Offending Service with young people and their parents.
  • Experience of case holding/management.
  • Experience of working in a multi‑agency team, preferably in a Youth Justice setting.
  • Experience of court work and the Criminal Justice system.
  • Experience using the Youth Justice System’s databases (preferably Childview) and basic computer skills.
  • Understanding of the legal framework of Youth Justice, including national standards, key elements of effective practice, scaled approach and a child‑first approach.
  • Completion of an enhanced Disclosure.
