Herefordshire Council seeks a passionate and knowledgeable Principal Building Control Surveyor to lead the Building Control team. Under the direction of the Building Control Manager, you will head up a team of Surveyors and Technical Support Officers, administer day‑to‑day activities and deputise for the manager as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Building Control team, overseeing operational duties and ensuring effective service delivery.
  • Deal with internal and external customers on building control matters, including regulation applications, site inspections, building safety levy charges, pre‑application advice, potentially dangerous structure reports and enforcement enquiries.
  • Collaborate with IT providers to maintain accurate computer records and prepare periodic data reports.
  • Work with colleagues to support the Council’s projects and report directly to the Building Control Manager.

About You

  • Registered building inspector with demonstrable experience in building safety regulation.
  • Strong knowledge of building control, regulatory issues and current legislation.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team under tight deadlines across multiple work streams.
