Help children and families thrive – from early years through to school age. We’re looking for enthusiastic and experienced Early Years practitioners and leaders to join our team and make a real difference across Worcestershire. In this role, you’ll support the delivery of Worcestershire’s Best Start in Life Strategy and strengthen the school age childcare agenda, helping to develop sustainable, inclusive and high‑quality provision for children beyond the early years.

About The Role

This is a varied and rewarding role where relationships are at the heart of everything you do. You’ll work closely with early years providers, schools, childminders and out-of-school settings, offering support, guidance and constructive challenge to help them improve and succeed. You’ll focus particularly on targeted settings, helping to secure rapid and lasting improvements. At the same time, you’ll contribute to developing a strong, sustainable childcare sector—including wraparound and school age provision—so that families can access the care they need. Through your work, you will bring both the Best Start in Life Strategy and School Age Childcare priorities to life—improving quality, supporting sufficiency, and strengthening outcomes for children.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting early years and childcare providers to improve quality and outcomes for children
  • Providing expert advice, coaching and challenge to leaders and practitioners
  • Supporting settings with Ofsted preparation and improvement planning
  • Designing and delivering engaging training and professional development
  • Promoting excellent teaching, learning and safeguarding practice
  • Contributing to sufficiency by supporting sustainable early years and school age childcare provision, including wraparound care
  • Working collaboratively with partners to create an effective team around the setting
  • Helping to ensure families can access high-quality childcare across all age ranges

Qualifications & Experience

  • Strong experience in Early Years and/or Out of School practice or leadership, with a track record of improving quality
  • In-depth knowledge of the EYFS, Ofsted frameworks and safeguarding
  • Experience of delivering training, advice and constructive challenge
  • Understanding of childcare sufficiency and the needs of working families, including school age childcare
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Genuine passion for improving outcomes for children and families

Additional Information

  • Travel across Worcestershire is required
  • Some evening and weekend working will be needed
  • Role is subject to an enhanced DBS check

Benefits

  • Great Holiday Entitlement: As well as bank holidays, you’ll get 26 days paid holiday (pro rata for part‑time staff). This increases to 31 days after five years.
  • Brilliant Pension Scheme: The Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) is a nationwide, career average pension scheme and is a valuable part of the pay and reward package for employees working in local government.
  • Professional Learning & Development: We actively encourage learning and development for all our staff should they want to progress further or explore other areas within the organisation.
  • Flexible Working: We are proud to offer hybrid working to provide a better work/life balance where possible.

The County Council is committed to equality of opportunity for all citizens and celebrates the diversity of all its residents.
