Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council is looking for a detail-oriented Technical Officer (Subsidy) to join our Revenues and Benefits Service. You will be responsible for providing specialist support across the Revenues and Benefits Service, helping to ensure the Council maximises subsidy income while maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance.
This role is key to ensuring compliance with legislation and regulatory requirements, where you’ll work alongside operational teams, provide technical advice, undertake detailed subsidy analysis and support the delivery of accurate subsidy returns.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Providing advice and guidance on Housing Benefit subsidy matters.
- Supporting the preparation, completion and submission of subsidy returns.
- Undertaking technical investigations and supporting internal and external audit requirements.
- Supporting reconciliation processes and producing management information.
- Identifying training needs and providing guidance to colleagues across the service.
- Working closely with operational teams to maintain service standards and performance targets.
You will have:
- Experience working with Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit regulations.
- Experience providing technical advice and guidance to colleagues.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work independently whilst contributing positively to team objectives.
