St James CE Primary School (SIPS) requires a Learning Support Practitioner to work with teachers to support teaching and learning, providing general and specific assistance to pupils and staff under the direction, guidance and direct supervision of the classroom teacher. For September 2026, the position will involve supporting teachers in year 6. Please note, future assignments may be in different areas of the school and are subject to change as required.

Key responsibilities:

  • Implement planned learning activities/teacher programmes as agreed with the teacher, adjusting activities according to pupils’ responses as appropriate.
  • Supervise and provide particular support for pupils, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
  • Support pupils in social and emotional well-being, reporting problems to the teacher as appropriate.
  • Assist with the implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour plans and Personal Care programs under the supervision and guidance of teaching staff.
  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • GCSE Maths and English minimum grade 4 or equivalent.
  • TA3 qualification or equivalent or relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience supervising children in a school setting.
  • Experience of working with children who have a wide variety of educational needs.

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post. This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to speak fluent and spoken English is an essential requirement for this role.
