The Role
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning across the school. They will be responsible for planning, preparing and delivering high-quality lessons and learning activities across EYFS, KS1 and KS2, including PPA cover, leadership release time and short-term teacher absence. Working closely with teachers and leaders, they will assess, monitor and support pupils' progress, adapt learning to meet individual needs and help ensure that all children achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and deliver engaging, creative and effective lessons across EYFS, KS1 and KS2.
- Take responsibility for whole‑class teaching during PPA cover, leadership release time and short‑term teacher absence.
- Assess, monitor, record and report on pupils' attainment, progress and development.
- Adapt learning activities to meet the needs of all learners, including pupils with SEND.
- Deliver targeted interventions to support and accelerate pupil progress.
- Support the teaching of phonics and early reading.
- Promote high standards of behaviour, learning and engagement.
- Organise and manage appropriate learning environments and resources.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents and external agencies.
- Support pupils' personal, social and emotional development.
- Contribute to the wider life of the school and actively promote the school's vision and values.
- Ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn, develop and succeed.
Person Specification
- Hold HLTA status or an equivalent Level 4 qualification.
- Have excellent literacy and numeracy skills, including GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C/4 or above.
- Have experience of planning and delivering learning across the primary age range.
- Have experience of successfully leading whole‑class learning.
- Have strong curriculum knowledge and an understanding of effective teaching and learning strategies.
- Have experience of supporting and adapting provision for pupils with SEND.
- Have knowledge and experience of phonics teaching (Read Write Inc. experience desirable).
- Have high expectations of achievement, behaviour and personal development.
- Be highly organised, motivated and flexible.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be committed to raising standards and improving outcomes for all children.
- Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Burnt Tree Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
