About the Orchard School
The Orchard School (SIPS) is a maintained special school for children with severe, profound, and complex learning difficulties and medical needs. Currently, there are 173 pupils aged 4 to 11 years. We have a purpose‑built campus that includes a music and drama studio, white and dark room studios, a soft playroom, a sensory room, swimming and hydrotherapy pools, and defined outdoor play areas for different ages and abilities. An interdisciplinary team supports our students, comprising nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy staff, a teacher of the visually impaired, and consultant paediatricians who run regular out‑patient clinics. Nursing staff are present most of the week, and specialist ophthalmology and occupational therapy clinics are held in‑school. Our bespoke curriculum is underpinned by the National Curriculum. Every child receives a personalised learning journey to enable them to achieve their best potential.
Role Overview
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to support our students’ educational and personal development during term time.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide support to students with complex and profound learning difficulties.
- Adapt support strategies to meet the changing needs of students.
- Maintain reliability and commitment to the role, ensuring students feel secure and supported.
- Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver an inclusive environment.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience working with children who have complex and profound learning difficulties.
- High standards of written and spoken English. (Part 7 of the Immigration Act – fluency in spoken English is essential.)
- Appropriate qualifications as specified in the job specification.
Hours and Salary
37 hours per week, Monday to Friday during term time. Part‑time candidates may apply for reduced hours. Salary: Grade E, SCP 18‑25, £31,537 – £36,363 p.a. + SEN Allowance.
