Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an Assistant to the SENCO (Special Needs Co‑ordinator) starting on 1 September 2026. This role is for 35 hours per week, term time only plus five training days. The position is initially fixed‑term until 31 August 2027, with a possibility of becoming permanent.

Your work will support and strengthen our SEND/SEMH provision, enabling teachers to focus on teaching and students to focus on learning. You will help remove barriers to learning and directly influence outcomes for our most vulnerable learners.
What You’ll Do
- Coordinate provision for pupils with SEND and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
- Maintain accurate SEND records, including EHCP documentation and provision maps.
- Liaise with parents, carers and external agencies to arrange meetings and follow up actions.
- Prepare reports, data summaries and resources to support teaching staff.
- Organise and track interventions, ensuring impact is monitored and reported.
- Provide administrative support for annual reviews, referrals and assessments.
- Support staff training to embed effective strategies for meeting pupils’ needs.
- Lead SEMH initiatives such as breakfast clubs, nurture provision, lunchtime clubs and targeted interventions including music and Lego therapy.
