We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and suitably qualified individual to join our Leisure Services team as a Duty Manager at Newport Swimming and Fitness Centre.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the day-to-day operation of a busy council-owned sports and leisure facility.

Working on a rota basis, including evenings and weekends, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and customer-focused operational management of the centre during your shift.

About The Role

As Duty Manager, you will

  • Lead and supervise staff to ensure high standards of customer service and operational delivery.
  • Oversee the safe operation of the facility, ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures.
  • Monitor and report on health and safety matters, implementing corrective actions where required.
  • Support the training and development of staff in operational procedures and best practice.
  • Act as the first point of contact for customers, dealing effectively with enquiries and resolving issues.
  • Assist in maintaining a welcoming, clean, and safe environment for all users.

About You

The successful candidate will have

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in a supervisory role within a leisure, fitness, or customer service environment.
  • Experience of supervising, supporting, and training staff.
  • Knowledge and experience of health and safety monitoring and reporting procedures.
  • The ability to work flexibly as part of a rota, including evenings and weekends.

Essential Requirements

  • National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)
  • Level 2 Health & Fitness Qualification, or the ability to obtain this within 6 months of appointment.
