This role is a 37‑hour a week permanent position with an annual salary of £28,598‑£32,597 (pay award pending).

It supports the South Worcestershire Development Plan Review strategy, which includes delivering over 20,000 homes and 300 hectares of employment land over the next 15 years, as well as regenerating existing centres such as Evesham and Droitwich.

As an Assistant Planning Officer, you will develop your own caseload within a small team in the Development Management service, processing planning and related applications mainly for householder developments.

Your work will include site appraisals, research, negotiations, report writing, occasional presentation at the planning committee and appeal work.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage your own caseload within the Development Management team.
  • Process planning and related applications, mainly for householder developments.
  • Conduct site appraisals, research and negotiate outcomes.
  • Write concise and accurate reports.
  • Present decisions at planning committee meetings and manage appeal work when required.
  • Maintain regular contact with applicants, agents, members of the public and other service users.

Qualifications

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Strong customer‑service orientation and ability to deliver exceptional service.
  • Team player with an adaptable and flexible approach.
  • Self‑directed and able to meet tight deadlines.
  • Negotiation skills to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Degree (or equivalent) in planning or a related subject, and/or experience working in a planning environment is preferred.
