Westwood College is seeking an Assistant SENCo to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The post holder will work closely with the SENCo and school teams to deliver effective support, meet statutory requirements and improve SEND practice.

Start date: TBC

Contract type: Permanent – Green Book terms and conditions

Pay: Grade 6 (SCP 9‑15), FTE £27,254, Actual Salary £23,666 per annum, over 12 monthly payments

Working pattern: Monday to Friday, 32.50 hours per week, to cover the school day

Term time/whole year: Term time plus 6 days to cover inset days

Base location: Westwood College

Line manager: Head of School/SENCo

Role summary: The Assistant SENCo supports the SENCo in the effective coordination and delivery of provision for pupils with SEND, ensuring statutory requirements are met and that pupils receive high‑quality, inclusive support to enable them to achieve their full potential. Working under the direction of the Head of School and SENCo, the post holder plays a key role in identifying needs, monitoring progress, coordinating support, and contributing to the development of effective SEN practice across the school.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting pupils directly through targeted interventions and small group work, setting and monitoring progress against agreed outcomes, and contributing to assessment, review, and planning processes, including Individual Education Plans and annual reviews.
  • Regular liaison with parents/carers, teaching staff, external professionals and agencies to ensure a coordinated and consistent approach to SEND support.
  • Supporting the organisation and administration of SEN processes, including maintaining accurate and confidential records, coordinating statutory reviews, overseeing access arrangements, and ensuring documentation is completed, stored securely, and shared appropriately.
  • Supporting the SENCo in developing staff understanding of SEND, disseminating good practice, and identifying resources to meet pupils’ needs.
  • Contributing to the wider life and ethos of the school, working collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals, and engaging in relevant training and development to continually enhance SEND provision and personal professional practice.
