Birmingham City Council are seeking a motivated Networks Infrastructure Engineer to join their Network Professionals team working on a hybrid basis.
A skilled engineer is required to support the Birmingham City Council (BCC) network, maintaining and enhancing the network to meet business needs. The position offers the opportunity to work with leading‑edge network technologies from top‑tier vendors, including Cisco, Checkpoint, F5, and Smoothwall, in a large WAN that spans over 200 sites. The infrastructure supports over 10,000 users who provide key services to over a million citizens in the city.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical assistance to the customer base.
- Act as a point of escalation for team members and customers.
- Provide Tier 1/2 support for the day‑to‑day running of the Network, Internet Services, Load‑balancing and Firewall Services.
- Participate in the installation of new sites, from site survey to go‑live.
- Deliver operational changes.
- Troubleshoot technical problems, challenges and complexities that exist within the network.
- Troubleshoot connectivity issues with Cisco wireless LAN controllers.
- Configure, install, maintain and update Cisco Access Points, Routers and switches.
- Monitor the network using the system monitoring/reporting tool SolarWinds.
- Complete BAU changes on Check Point firewalls.

Requirements
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for travel to sites across the city.
