Housing Officer, Migration – Birmingham City Council

Birmingham City Council, Fixed Term Contract until 31 March 2027

Grade 3 – £27,254 – £33,699

Consultation grade – subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working 36.5 hours per week

Key Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Working within the migration team, focusing on assistance for citizens approaching under the Homes for Ukraine and Ukraine Permission Extensions programs.
  • Communicating with people who may be stressed or anxious, maintaining calm, understanding their issues, and providing appropriate advice within a legal framework.
  • Accurately recording interactions in the IT system to prevent customer homelessness.
  • Delivering expert housing advice and solutions, conducting thorough assessments and investigations.
  • Making referrals to other local authorities and support agencies, delivering high quality case management.
  • Making informed homeless decisions within statutory targets.

Qualifications and Skills

We are looking for people who:

  • Have great communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Are accurate with an attention to detail.
  • Are confident in their use of systems and databases.
  • Have knowledge of working within social housing and homelessness; training is given for those with experience in another social or people‑facing field.

This contract is fixed term until 31 March 2027, working on a hybrid basis.
