South Bromsgrove High School (SIPS),
South Bromsgrove High is an over-subscribed, high performing 13-18 school.
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support students within our Internal Alternative Provision (IAP). This role is critical in supporting young people who may be facing challenges in mainstream lessons, including those affected by trauma, mental health difficulties, or behaviour concerns. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering targeted interventions, supporting reintegration, and providing a safe, nurturing learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver structured interventions and educational support for pupils in the IAP, under the guidance of teaching staff and the AP Lead.
  • Support the emotional regulation and behavioural development of students using trauma-informed, restorative, and therapeutic approaches.
  • Assist in planning and leading alternative provision activities, including vocational tasks such as horticulture, arts and crafts, and basic carpentry.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of literacy support, including secondary phonics and Lexonic interventions.
  • Support the reintegration of pupils back into mainstream classes where appropriate.
  • Act as a key adult for identified pupils, building consistent, positive relationships.
  • Assist in the ongoing review and development of pupil support plans and risk assessments.
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour and engagement, using de-escalation strategies where necessary (e.g., Team Teach techniques).
  • Safeguard student wellbeing, acting as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (if qualified).
  • Supervise off-site or enrichment activities, including driving the school minibus (if licensed).
Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS (Disclosure Barring Service) clearance is required for this role.
This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to speak fluent and spoken English is an essential requirement for this role.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and is eligible for an enhanced DBS check, including a Barred list check. If you are barred from working with children you are breaking the law if you apply for this post
