Evesham Town Council is seeking an organised and proactive professional with strong financial expertise to support the effective management and development of the Council. This is a varied and rewarding role combining financial leadership with operational and administrative responsibilities, offering the opportunity to make a real difference in the local community. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a supportive and forward-thinking council environment, contributing to strategic initiatives while ensuring financial transparency, accuracy and integrity.

In this role, you will play a key part in the Council’s operations, deputising for the Town Clerk when required and supporting council meetings, community engagement, and policy development.

Senior Finance Officer Responsibilities
  • Managing the Council’s accounts, budgets, and financial systems
  • Preparing budget reports, forecasts, and advising on financial best practice
  • Producing year-end accounts, annual reports, and completing returns for external auditors
  • Ensuring compliance with financial regulations and audit requirements
  • Maintaining internal controls, asset registers, and risk management processes
  • Supporting Council and committee meetings, including agenda preparation and minute taking
  • Liaising with contractors, stakeholders, and members of the community
  • Contributing to policy development and implementation
  • Representing the Council at events and attending regular council meetings (approximately 2 per month)

You’ll thrive in this role if you are:

  • AAT qualified (or higher)
  • Willing to obtain the Financial Introduction to Local Council Administration (FILCA) within 18 months (if not already held)
  • Experienced in using accounting software (knowledge of Rialtas Suite is desirable)
  • Skilled in budget management and financial processing
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
  • A confident communicator, able to engage with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel (advanced level)
  • Community-focused with a proactive and adaptable approach
  • Experienced in a local authority or similar environment (desirable)
