Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced Highway Management Engineer to join our dedicated team, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of Solihull’s roads, footpaths and bridleways.

Responsibilities

As a Highway Management Engineer you will ensure the safe and efficient operation of Solihull’s roads, footpaths and bridleways. The Highways Team looks after a wide range of services including routine and reactive asset maintenance, Streetworks and highway permits, Traffic Regulation Orders, road safety, Public Rights of Way and overall network management. You will help shape how people travel in the future and support major projects such as High‑Speed 2, M42 Junction 5a, the housing growth programme and developments at Birmingham Airport, the NEC and Arden Cross.

About You

To succeed in this role you will have:

  • a Level 4 qualification (e.g., HNC) or above in Engineering or a related subject, or substantial relevant experience and training in civil engineering, highway management or similar;
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of traffic management, collision analysis, road safety and statutory legislation, including the TSRGD;
  • Proven experience implementing Traffic Regulation Orders;
  • Strong partnership working skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

This is an essential car user role. You will be required to travel across the borough to understand the network and bring your own vision and experience on how we can improve road safety. Applicants must hold a valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle. Reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled applicants where required.
