We are looking for enthusiastic Cycling Instructors to join our highly regarded Cycle Training Team, delivering Bikeability programmes across the borough in a fun, motivating, and engaging way.
About The Role
As a Cycling Instructor, you will play an important part in helping children and adults build essential cycling skills and confidence – whether riding independently or in a group. You’ll support learners to understand how to cycle safely on today’s roads, following the National Standards for Cycle Training set by the Department for Transport. Training is primarily delivered in primary schools, with some opportunities in secondary schools across Solihull. Sessions typically run for 1.5–2 hours, with up to three sessions scheduled during a school day in larger schools. We also offer training during school holidays, and occasionally on evenings or weekends, to support uniformed groups, adult learners, families, and community‑led rides.
Who We’re Looking For
This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy cycling in any form and thrive when working with children. Successful applicants will demonstrate:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to give clear instructions and adapt to learners’ needs
- Physical ability to walk and cycle distances of up to two miles on a frequent basis
Working arrangements
The post is offered on an annualised hours of 400 hours or on a casual basis. While we value flexibility, we particularly welcome candidates who can commit to week‑long school bookings. You will not be required to work every week.
Training and onboarding
Your contribution will be highly valued, and you’ll be supported every step of the way. Successful candidates will begin onboarding in March/April, which includes:
- A fully funded 3‑day Level 2 Award in Cycle Training, including online modules
- First Aid training
- Level 1 Safeguarding training
Completion of this training is mandatory for the role.
