We are seeking to appoint a compassionate and proactive professional to take on a pivotal role in promoting and sustaining a positive, inclusive, and supportive school culture. This role focuses on pupil welfare, wellbeing, and engagement, with a strong emphasis on improving outcomes for disadvantaged and vulnerable pupils.

Responsibilities

  • Lead welfare and wellbeing strategy across Years 7–11, ensuring equity and inclusion for all pupil groups.
  • Use data to identify trends in pupil welfare and implement targeted, evidence-based interventions.
  • Design and monitor bespoke support plans that improve attendance, engagement, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, families, and external agencies to remove barriers to learning and promote positive outcomes.
  • Promote restorative practices and model professional standards throughout the school.
  • Lead on anti-bullying, mental health, and equity-focused initiatives.
  • Ensure safeguarding, inclusion, and high-quality provision across all areas of responsibility.
  • Coordinate reintegration processes and key transition pathways for pupils.
  • Provide pastoral line management and contribute to whole-school leadership.

All staff are expected to know what to do if they have concerns about a child, take on the responsibility for providing a safe environment and promoting children’s welfare, undertake regular safeguarding and child protection training, and familiarise themselves with KCSIE part 1 and local policies and procedures as directed by the trust/academy.

About Us

Blue Coat is a successful and oversubscribed school in the heart of the city of Coventry. As a Christian school our intake draws from both the local area and across the city and surrounding areas. The school was graded Outstanding in its SIAMS inspection and Good by Ofsted in May 2023 and continues to perform academically. In 2023 our Attainment 8 at GCSE was 52.3 and our Progress 8 score was +0.42, both above national average. The vast majority of our students stay on into the sixth form and continue their studies. We have a large and successful Post 16 provision with 350 pupils on average studying either A levels or Vocational Level 3 courses, with excellent progression to universities, apprenticeships and employment. We were inspected by Ofsted in May 2023, and were judged a Good School, with Outstanding for Personal Development, The Sixth Form and Leadership and Management.
