We are looking for experienced psychologists and senior social workers who are keen to support children and young people who display sexually harmful behaviour. Join our Safer Connections Service (SCS) to deliver consultation, assessment, intervention and support to children and young people aged 7‑17 years.

The SCS team works alongside the Therapeutic Emotional Support Service (TESS) and adopts a multi‑agency approach, delivering bespoke interventions and education programmes to children, young people and their parents and caregivers regarding harmful sexualised behaviours. We collaborate closely with the Birmingham Children’s Trust Early Help network, Child in Needs teams, Safeguarding and Children in Care services, Birmingham Youth Justice Service, Police, and local CAMHS service Forward Thinking Birmingham.

The team currently comprises a Team Manager, three Clinical Practitioners and two HSB Practitioners. We are recruiting two additional team members from a social work or applied practitioner psychology background who can demonstrate experience and skills in understanding vulnerable children, young people and families, and supporting them to manage the risk of harmful sexualised behaviour and foster positive change.

We are looking for candidates with passion, motivation and enthusiasm to:

  • deliver a high‑quality service to children, families, caregivers and victims of harmful sexualised behaviour
  • match the relevant experience and skills to the job description and person specification
  • work with and alongside others, to learn, innovate and deliver improvements
  • work independently and as part of a team
  • work directly with children, young people and families who have experienced significant adversity and trauma
  • have experience working with children who display harmful sexualised behaviours or a passion to develop in this unique area of practice

We will provide access to training, regular professional supervision and ongoing support. Previous experience with children and young people presenting with harmful sexual behaviour is beneficial, but we also welcome psychologists and senior social workers from other specialties with skills in formulation, risk assessment and management, and the ability to look beyond behaviour. Experience with early adversity, social care or youth justice involvement, childhood trauma, or attachment disruption is also desirable.

We seek applicants who demonstrate an interest in evidence‑based practice and research and who are keen to develop their knowledge and skills within this specialism.
