Kemball School, part of Orchard Community Trust, is a day special school for pupils with cognitive and learning difficulties. We are looking for a class teacher to cover a maternity leave starting September 2026.

The role involves teaching a class of pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties and complex medical and physical needs. Pupils are taught using a highly adapted, individualised curriculum across four bespoke pathways, with the class placed in the progression pathway. Daily teaching includes maths, English, Read Write Inc phonics/spelling and writing/reading interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead class teaching sessions and support pupils' learning using the adapted curriculum.
  • Implement EYFS/Key Stage 1 primary curriculum principles where applicable.
  • Collaborate with the Pathway Lead and team to observe lessons and contribute to lesson planning.
  • Engage in professional development and attend relevant courses to enhance understanding of the multisensory pathway.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Teaching qualification and experience, preferably in a special education setting.
  • Knowledge of EYFS/Key Stage 1 primary curriculum and experience with pupils requiring an adapted curriculum.
  • A willingness to undertake CPD and implement new initiatives to support pupils.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding and commitment to the welfare of children.
