Staffordshire County Council is looking for a customer‑facing Library Assistant to work at Perton Library, located in the heart of the community. The role involves assisting customers face‑to‑face, via email or telephone, and supporting a range of library services, including IT support, information provision and activities for all ages.
Working Hours
- Alternate weekends (Week 2) – 4hrs 30mins per week on average
- Saturday 9.30 am–4.00 pm (30‑minute lunch)
- Sunday 1.00 pm–4.00 pm
Key Responsibilities
- Help customers find information and resources they need
- Provide digital support to customers using PCs or accessing e‑services
- Support projects and activities for all ages
- Promote library stock, services and events through social media and outreach events
- Handle sales and cash transactions
- Deliver and support weekly events
- Support other libraries in the district through flexible working arrangements
Eligibility & Qualifications
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4+) or equivalent, or relevant customer‑service experience
- Proven experience delivering high‑quality service in a public‑facing or public‑service environment
- Understanding of public library services, with experience handling confidential information accurately and securely
- Strong teamwork abilities, with experience using computer systems, data entry and attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage people of all ages, backgrounds and needs
- Flexibility, the ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging situations while maintaining a positive customer experience
