This is a part‑time, 18.5 hour per week role. Sandwell’s Bereavement Services provide a number of services to families at what is often a very difficult time in their lives. Our Reception Suite and Café facility at Sandwell Valley Crematorium is a key service offering wakes in a purpose built, licensed facility and a friendly and welcoming café for those attending services or visiting loved ones in our grounds.

We are looking to appoint a suitably qualified, empathetic and enthusiastic Catering Officer to be part of a small team, helping to run these services. This role requires undertaking all tasks associated with the preparation and serving of food and beverages at the Reception Suite and the Café, the booking of wakes, checking and validation of information and providing advice and guidance to all customers and relevant stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Food preparation and service, in line with relevant food and hygiene regulations
  • The sale of beverages to include soft drinks and alcohol
  • Stock control and procurement
  • Cash handling and associated administrative tasks
  • Oversight and organisation of bookings and rotas
Qualifications
  • Excellent front of house customer service skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Empathy and understanding in working with the bereaved
