Children’s Senior Social Worker – Unaccompanied Asylum‑Seeking Children

At Birmingham Children’s Trust we are looking for an experienced social worker for a hybrid role based in Birmingham.

You must reside within a suitable commutable distance and have the right‑to‑work documents to work in the UK.

Sponsorship is not supported.

About the role

You will safeguard and promote the welfare of unaccompanied asylum‑seeking children and young people.

Your work will involve conducting holistic assessments, developing care plans, supporting clients through the immigration system, and ensuring placement stability.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct holistic and, where necessary, age assessments.
  • Develop and implement individualized care and foster plans.
  • Prepare analytical court reports within strict timescales.
  • Provide ongoing support to children and families and liaise with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Work independently, demonstrating strong interpersonal and initiative‑driven skills.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
  • At least 3 years post‑qualified experience.
  • Experience working with children in a complex social work setting.
  • Solid understanding of safeguarding, fostering legislation, national minimum standards and safeguarding procedures.
  • Analytical, evidence‑based report writing skills.
  • Offer
  • Salary plus a £1,000 welcome payment in the first months salary.
  • Retention payment up to £5,000 per annum (paid monthly, subject to tax and NI).
  • Coverage of Social Work England registration fee.
  • Coverage of DBS application fee and reimbursement of the DBS Update Service subscription.
  • 30 days annual leave, increasing to 33 days after 5 years and 35 days after 10 years.
  • Early finish every Friday.
