Permanent, Grade C- – £35,412 – £44,075, working full time, 36.5 hours per week, hybrid working. We are looking for an experienced and motivated Commissioning Officer to join the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Commissioning Team within the Children & Families directorate. The role supports the development and monitoring of commissioned SEND services to meet service specification and contract requirements with a focus on quality and performance.
Responsibilities
- Support the development and monitoring of commissioned SEND services to meet specification and contract requirements.
- Undertake a variety of commissioning activities aligned with Birmingham’s Strategy for Children and Young People and Young Adults (CYP) with SEND.
- Implement robust quality assurance processes across all commissioned placements to ensure optimal outcomes for CYP.
- Conduct quality assurance of SEND placements, supporting continuous improvement across residential, day educational specialist, and other support services.
- Use excellent communication and engagement skills to support, motivate, and challenge providers to deliver the best possible services.
- Report to the SEND Senior Commissioning & Quality Assurance Officer and work collaboratively with a team of commissioning officers.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in SEND commissioning or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of SEND legislation and best practice in commissioning services.
- Evidence of excellent communication, engagement, and stakeholder management skills.
- Capacity to remain calm under pressure and manage competing priorities.
