City of Birmingham School is looking for an ambitious, inspirational and experienced leader of PE to reinvigorate the PE curriculum, enhance teaching within the department and boost outcomes for pupils across all secondary sites.

Why Join Us?

We have made strides in our curriculum development over the last five years and we have dynamic and exciting curriculum leaders in post across the school. However, PE remains an area for development, therefore this role offers the right candidate the opportunity to develop an exciting PE curriculum and extracurricular programme. We have the resource to invest into the department but require someone with experience to direct this effectively and appropriately. We know that PE has a tremendous impact on our KS3 and 4 pupils and we have some talented sportsmen and women – we are looking for a leader to harness the direction of PE to bring this view into a reality. We will work with the successful candidate to continue developing their leadership skills, offering opportunities for wider leadership responsibilities and progression where appropriate.

Our Belief

We firmly believe that, despite their diverse educational experiences, our pupils can achieve the same national qualifications as their mainstream peers. We are looking for a PE leader with experience in both core KS3 and 4 PE and GCSE PE, who is passionate about the subject and can inspire pupils through high quality teaching and learning, ensuring every pupil reaches their potential.

Our Environment

As Birmingham LA’s Pupil Referral Unit, we educate permanently excluded pupils. Pupils at COBs are diverse – many have SEND and we have a high proportion of Pupil Premium pupils. Located across eight campuses in the city, our teams of teachers and support staff work together to teach pupils with complex social, emotional needs and challenging behaviours. We follow a broadly mainstream curriculum, with the same level of academic rigour that is seen in other schools. However, despite our high standards, our inclusive practices, additional pastoral care and small class size allows us to meet the needs of each individual in the classroom.

What We Offer

  • A forward-thinking school committed to continual improvement and innovation
  • A welcoming and friendly environment with a positive ethos
  • An off-timetable management day every week to allow curriculum leaders to see their colleagues in other campuses
  • Bi-weekly full day of PPA that can be taken from home – supplemented with additional PPA within a school week
  • Opportunities to build positive relationships and support children
  • A supportive, enthusiastic, dedicated, and highly motivated staff and governors
  • Opportunities to be part of delivering an exciting curriculum
  • Continuous professional development opportunities

Who We Are Looking For

  • Passionate about teaching, learning, and pupil progress
  • Enthusiastic about PE
  • Dynamic and resilient
  • Forward-thinking and determined to make a difference
