Working 36.50 hours per week
We are looking for a motivated housing specialist with experience in allocations, lettings or housing management. The successful postholder will help residents who are under‑occupying or overcrowding to transition to homes of the right size. This role involves coordinated activity directly with residents, leveraging swap opportunities, and working with Housing Associations to access external officers and lead use of Homeswapper and other opportunities to release larger family homes.
What You Will Be Doing
- Lead and manage a team supporting residents to find appropriate housing based on their needs
- Develop and deliver targeted engagement plans to encourage movement within the housing stock
- Work collaboratively with internal services to agree incentive payments and support packages for residents
- Drive initiatives to release larger homes for families and maximise use of the Council’s housing portfolio
- Monitor and report on team performance across programmes and governance forums
- Coordinate operational services to ensure fair and consistent delivery of rightsizing initiatives
- Build strong relationships with residents, community groups and Ward Councillors, providing clear advice and briefings
- Promote opportunities for mutual exchange and rightsizing across tenants
- Manage procurement activity and external consultants to deliver positive outcomes
- Deliver workshops, drop‑in sessions and engagement events to support residents considering moving
Experience
- Significant experience and knowledge of housing Consumer Standards, particularly the Tenancy Standard
- Experience of working across housing services, including Allocations & Lettings
- Understanding of Local Government, including advising Members
- Proven experience working with diverse communities and influencing behaviour
- Experience of managing project budgets and ensuring value for money
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong leadership and team management capability
- Ability to analyse complex data and present information clearly
- Excellent communication skills, with experience explaining complex information to a range of audiences
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship‑building skills
- Ability to manage projects, including risk and performance reporting
- Ability to prioritise competing demands and work across multiple services
- Understanding of compensation and financial packages for residents
- Knowledge of housing, allocations, lettings and regeneration
