Birmingham Children’s Trust are expanding the internal Children’s Homes portfolio. We recognise the importance of providing good quality placements to our children and young people and want to provide homes that keep children and young people close to family, peers and education. We are recruiting for a Registered Manager with strong leadership and childcare experience to lead our team in our residential home. This role is to manage a 3 bed long term EBD home. The home is currently rated as GOOD and we are looking for an aspirational manager to lead the home to achieving outstanding. This role is based in Birmingham, so you must have the correct right-to-work documents to work in the UK. We do not sponsor visas.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day running of the residential home and champion the best interests of young people.
  • Lead child-centred practice and ensure safeguarding procedures are followed.
  • Provide strong resource management and effective leadership.
  • Contribute to the wider Children’s Residential Services management team.
  • Manage staff capability and supervise a team of Residential staff.
  • Be part of a 24‑hour residential provision and participate in an on-call rota; on-call shifts are paid.

About you

  • Have worked within the last 5 years, for at least 2 years in a position relevant to the residential care of children.
  • Have at least one year in a role requiring supervision and management of staff in a care role.
  • Be knowledgeable and prepared to adopt best practice to ensure young people experience the best opportunities.
  • Be able to reflect on experiences and communicate how this has shaped practice and safeguarding.
  • Demonstrate you are the right leader for the new home.
  • Proven experience managing a children’s home.
  • Strong leadership skills for managing a team of dedicated Residential staff.
  • Excellent communication skills for engaging with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Be passionate about good quality care and collaborative team working.
  • Ability to manage budgets, resources, and performance data.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and reflective practice.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including participation in an on-call rota.

A FULL employment history is required to ensure compliance with Schedule 2 requirements. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks level is determined by the role and contact with children.
