As a Principal Officer in the Development Planning Group, you will help to plan and deliver big changes in Birmingham. You will be involved in and lead various local planning and regeneration services and projects. Your tasks will include:

  • Leading the creation and implementation of site and area-based planning and regeneration frameworks, development briefs, and masterplans.
  • Engaging with a wide range of stakeholders and our communities through consultations and negotiations.
  • Providing a lead for planning advice to a variety of major development projects across the city, including support and guidance to priority housing regeneration initiatives.
  • Leading neighbourhood planning processes.
  • Supporting the maintenance of the city’s development site pipeline.
  • Producing briefing notes, Cabinet/governance and Scrutiny reports.
  • Lead planning input to Compulsory Purchase Orders (CPOs).

You’ll also contribute to major corporate projects, seek and monitor external funding, develop projects and ensure the proper use of S106 funds. The role encompasses being an ambassador for the city – you’ll actively promote the city's development opportunities to developers and investors and work closely with Business Improvement Districts, ward members, community groups, schools, and universities.

As a member of the Planning and Development service, you will be integral to capitalising on the significant development across the city and the arrival of HS2. The city has, and will continue to experience significant employment, housing and retail growth and this needs to be planned for, to accommodate development pressure alongside protecting and retaining the City’s natural and built assets. The service is at the centre of this ambitious growth programme, and we are seeking talented and driven people to deliver it.

A requirement for this role is holding or eligibility for RTPI membership.
