6 months Act Up, Secondment or Fixed Term Contract opportunity for Birmingham Council employees. Grade D – £45,091 – £53,460. Consultation grade – subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review. Working 36.5 hours per week.

As an HR Investigation Officer, you will take ownership of a varied and complex caseload that directly shapes fairness, trust, and accountability across the organisation. You’ll lead investigations into disciplinary matters, grievances, bullying, and harassment, ensuring each case is handled with professionalism, impartiality, and full compliance with employment law and organisational policy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead complex ER investigations – independently manage cases involving disciplinary issues, grievances and harassment.
  • Develop structured investigation plans – identify evidence, witnesses and key lines of enquiry.
  • Conduct impartial interviews – gather accurate, balanced and reliable information.
  • Produce high‑quality investigation reports – ensure clarity, factual accuracy and legal robustness.
  • Present findings at hearings – support panels with clear, confident and objective summaries.
  • Maintain accurate case records – ensure confidentiality, organisation and compliance with data protection legislation.
Requirements

Significant experience of chairing investigations and hearings is essential.
