Birmingham City Council is recruiting for Housing Solutions and Support Caseworkers to join the team within Homelessness Services. Homelessness services are a great place to work, where you can actually make a positive difference to people's lives by early support and guidance to prevent it.
The successful candidates will be required to be flexible in their working, and good communicators in all formats. This is a challenging role in a highly pressured environment at a time of significant change. The role may involve co-location with other agencies to make sure that as many people as possible are able to access our service.
This role's key function is the day-to-day operation of the Housing Solution & Support Case Worker Service. The role is key in the interview and assessment of those citizens who approach the City Council and who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. You will have great interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with people who can be very stressed and anxious and remain calm to understand their issues and provide them with the necessary advice within a legal framework.
You will also have to record that interaction accurately and in detail on an IT system which records all your interventions on the customer's behalf to prevent their homelessness. You will be expected to deliver expert housing advice and solutions; conduct thorough assessments and investigations; make referrals to other local authorities and support agencies; deliver high quality case management; and make informed homeless decisions within statutory guidelines.
Who we are looking for:
- Great communication skills, verbal and written
- Attention to detail
- Confident in their use of systems and databases
- Knowledge of working within social housing and homelessness, with training provided for those with experience in another social or person-facing field
