What You’ll Do

  • Provide strategic leadership for the Fleet & Transport Department.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fleet strategy covering capital acquisition, asset management and maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with traffic regulations and maintain the Council’s operator’s licence.
  • Lead strategic procurement of fleet assets aligned with long‑term sustainability goals.
  • Manage capital budgets for fleet replacement and explore carbon reduction and sustainable fuel solutions.
  • Establish performance metrics to evaluate procurement effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
  • Oversee fleet maintenance schedules and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and suppliers.
  • Monitor and manage fleet‑related budgets, ensuring cost‑effective and efficient operations.
  • Act as Budget Holder for the fleet department.
  • Work closely with wider BCC fleet teams.

What You’ll Need

  • Exceptional communication skills at all organisational levels.
  • Experience working in dynamic organisations.
  • Degree or professional certification in fleet management, logistics or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in fleet and asset operations, including procurement and compliance.
  • Proven track record in budget management and strategic planning.
  • Strong commercial acumen and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and navigate regulatory frameworks.
  • Commitment to sustainability and innovation in fleet management.
