Birmingham City Council is recruiting 10 Early Support Workers to join the AREA SENCo Team within Early Years Inclusion Support (EYIS). This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of young children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across Birmingham.
About the Role
- Support the learning and development of early years children with SEND, including transitions into settings.
- Work directly with setting‑based SENCos, practitioners, children and families.
- Assess children’s strengths and needs through observation, discussion and developmental profiles.
- Model high‑quality teaching, play and learning strategies to support individual educational plans.
- Assist settings to write and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and identify appropriate targets.
- Build strong partnership relationships with parents/carers and multi‑agency professionals.
- Deliver workshops to empower early years staff and families.
- Keep accurate, concise and objective records in line with statutory and service requirements.
- Contribute to a coordinated Team Around the Child (TAC) approach.
This role is central to improving early identification, inclusion and outcomes for young children with SEND across Birmingham.
About You
- Strong experience implementing the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for children with SEND.
- Experience working collaboratively with parents, carers, settings and external agencies.
- Knowledge of early child development, the SEND Code of Practice and safeguarding legislation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to respond flexibly and sensitively to individual needs.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan and manage your own workload and meet deadlines.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office and maintaining accurate records.
- A reflective, motivated and proactive approach to professional development.
