Birmingham City Council is seeking a dynamic and driven Operations Lead to take strategic and operational ownership of the city’s most valued outdoor spaces. This unique opportunity involves leading a team of Park Managers, enhancing visitor experiences, and ensuring destination parks operate at the highest standards every day.

We’re Looking For An Operational Leader Who Brings…

  • Proven experience in operations, ideally within grounds maintenance or outdoor environments
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams
  • Understanding of health & safety, risk management, and compliance
  • Experience in financial management, resource planning, and performance monitoring
  • A customer-focused mindset with a passion for high-quality service delivery
  • Excellent organisational and problem‑solving skills
  • Strong stakeholder management and collaboration abilities
  • A proactive, hands‑on approach with resilience in a dynamic environment

You will have direct responsibility for Birmingham’s Destination Park, the Wildlife & Nature Conservation Centre, and Plant Nurseries, ensuring high standards of service, sustainability, and visitor engagement.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead, inspire, and develop high-performing parks operations teams
  • Oversee day‑to‑day running of destination parks, ensuring safe, efficient operations
  • Drive exceptional visitor experiences and set standards for customer service
  • Manage budgets, resources, and operational planning effectively
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, commercial growth, and continuous improvement
